On October 2, 2012, the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) granted Professor Sameh Badie the PCI Young Educator Award during the closing ceremony of the National Bridge Conference held in Nashville, TN. Professor Badie received this national award in recognition of excellence in teaching and outstanding contributions to PCI and the entire precast concrete structures industry. The PCI Young Educator Award is granted to university professors who show substantial contributions to the educational mission of PCI. These contributions include demonstrated impact on education of undergraduate and graduate students, developing strong academic programs in design and analysis of concrete structures, and engaging graduate students in research related to precast/prestressed concrete structures. Granting this national award to a GW professor is a testimony of the positive impact that GW has made in educating engineers in the area of prestressed concrete. The CEE department at GW offers 5 courses in the area of design, analysis and construction of concrete structures.
